About the University

According to historical records, the Sanandaj Advanced Teacher Training College, affiliated with Tehran Teacher Training University, was founded in 1974 by Dr. Fereydoon Motamedvaziri, a statesman and university professor. In the first semester of the 1976-1977 academic year, it continued its educational activities as a campus of Razi University of Kermanshah under the name "Sanandaj Faculty of Teacher Education." In 1990, an agreement in principle was issued for the development of this faculty and its elevation to a comprehensive university, "University of Kurdistan," which included the establishment of faculties of Humanities, Basic Sciences, an Agricultural Institute, and a Technical Institute.
At the dawn of the new century, the University of Kurdistan is a comprehensive, education-oriented, research-driven, and entrepreneurial institution. As an effective social entity aiming for the excellence of education and the advancement of knowledge, it has established itself as one of the preeminent academic references in western Iran. Through regional, national, and international engagement and collaboration with other institutions, the university fulfills its historic responsibility of cultivating devout, capable, and skilled graduates. As the principal university in the Kurdistan province, it has defined four core missions for itself:

  1. The education and training of efficient and specialized human resources.

  2. Research, encompassing basic, developmental, and applied investigations.

  3. Entrepreneurship, the commercialization of knowledge, and the transformation of ideas into phenomena.

  4. Social responsibility and societal impact.
