About the Department of Plant Protection
History and Establishment
​​​​​​​ The Department of Plant Protection at the University of Kurdistan commenced its activities in 2005 with its establishment within the Faculty of Agriculture and the admission of students to the Bachelor's program in Plant Protection. In line with the expansion of its educational and research activities and the recruitment of specialized faculty members, the department successfully launched the Master of Science program in Plant Pathology in 2007, followed by the Master of Science program in Agricultural Entomology in 2009. Furthermore, the Ph.D. program in Plant Pathology has been offered by the department since 2013.
Message from the Head of the Department
Given the growing importance of food security and the fundamental role of plant protection in safeguarding agricultural production, the Department of Plant Protection at the University of Kurdistan strives to contribute to the enhancement of agricultural quality at the regional and national levels. This is achieved through the utilization of modern knowledge, the training of specialized personnel, and the execution of applied research. Relying on the expertise of its faculty members and the capabilities of its students, the department is consistently committed to scientifically addressing the challenges of the agricultural sector and providing effective solutions for the management of pests, diseases, and other plant-damaging agents. ​​​​​​​
Department Objectives
The primary objective of the Department of Plant Protection is to educate and train specialized and proficient personnel in fields related to plant protection, enabling them to assume effective roles in research, executive, advisory, and educational sectors. Other objectives of the department include:
  • ​​​​​​​ Enhancing the quantity and quality of agricultural production through the scientific management of pests, diseases, and weeds.
  • Developing interdisciplinary research in the field of plant protection and related sciences.
  • Elevating the knowledge and skills of students by utilizing modern educational and research methods.
  • Collaborating with research centers and executive organizations to address agricultural challenges at regional and national levels.
